"Keep on goin, Star." Kat urged gently, her hands folded over the onyx black reins tightened to her horse's head. The dark bay stallion jolted on, his gait smooth and comfortable. She watched the lush green land pass by her as the two moved as one on into the distance.
Star raced on, though he sensed someone else's presence. He turned his head, though keeping his focus on keeping Kat racing on, and saw a beautiful white mare. Wild, obviously. He whinnied up to Kat, then turned his head back to search for the mare, but she was gone.
"You okay Star?" Kat patted his dark neck, but the stallion seemed distracted. She followed his gaze, but saw nothing. "Let's head back to the stable." she grabbed his reins in her hand and pulled them back, not too suddenly, and he turned to head back to the stable.
When the two arrived, Kat hopped off, her feet hitting hard against the concrete ground. She looked past Star along the long aisles filled with empty stalls. This was a new farm, it was big, but there were no horses besides Star. Kat led the tall arabian to the groom room, one of the barn's newest features, and sprayed him down. She took his tack to the tack room, then led the stallion to his stall again.
Hay was spread along the floor and the stall was the largest Kat could order. Star rested his large muzzle on her shoulder, and the girl smiled, placing her hand on his forehead. Her other hand worked T-Touch on his neck, one of the methods CDS taught.
